Training on “Improving Livelihood of Tribal farmers Through Horticultural Interventions” Under TSP

 

A one day farmers’ training programme was organized by the Horticulture Division, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Ri-Bhoi on 29th January, 2016 at Maskut village, West Jaintia Hills District, Meghalaya under Tribal sub Plan. The main aim of the training programme was to impart knowledge on advance horticultural practices to improve the livelihood of tribal farmers through horticultural interventions. 

   

A total of 53 farmers participated in the programme. A lecture on important horticultural practices such as good agricultural practices of citrus, guava, tomato, cabbage etc. were delivered.  A Scientist-farmer interaction was also conducted which addressed several issues related to horticulture. During the interaction, farmers had brought out several queries pertaining to their problems experienced by them in field.

The feedback from the farmers shows that such event would improve their horticultural activities for better production and income generations. Inputs such as vegetables seeds were provided to the farmers following the lectures and interactions. They had expressed greater enthusiasm in learning several scientific practices.
