Field day on SRI under NICRA project organized by ICAR KVK,Ri-Bhoi

 

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ri-Bhoi, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam organized a Field day on 31st October 2015 at Kyrdem village, Ri Bhoi under NICRA project. The main aim of the programme was to showcase the success of the technology “SRI in paddy (var. Shahsarang)” to the farmers’ of Kyrdem and other surrounding villages. The programme was attended by 30 farmers from different villages including the adopted village. Farmers were convinced by observing 28-32 effective tillers, long panicle under SRI method of cultivation which matures 10-12 days earlier than the crops grown under conventional method.  The yield of paddy in SRI method is expected to be double than the conventional method. The neighbouring farmers attended the event and were very impressed with the performance of paddy cultivated by SRI method and were very eager to try it in their field from next year onwards.
