A Case report – Declining Citrus Orchard at Anjaw district

A farmer Mr. B. Manyu from Changraliang village, Anjaw district, Arunachal Pradesh came to KVK office on 14th July 2017 complaining about his declining citrus orchard comprised of around 310 trees. So, KVK official Dr. Senpon Ngomle, SMS, Plant Protection made a visit to his Citrus Orchard.

After careful inspection of the orchard following symptom were noticed

  • Orchard was declining with multiple stresses like pest, disease and nutritional imbalance.
  • Cankerous spots on leaves and twigs.
  •  Heavy attack of Citrus trunk borer on main trunk and branches.

Among all the ailment, infestation of Citrus trunk borer was found to be most destructive followed by collar rot. Citrus canker caused by Xanthomonas Campestris PV axonopodis  also caused major damage to the orchard.

Citrus trunk borer bored into the trunk and feed on it. At later stage, the leaves of infested trees turn yellow and the plants die completly. Infestation of canker was observed in the new flushes where lesions appear as water soaked, translucent and at later stage the leaves surface become rough, eruptive and corky.

After judicious observation following treatments were suggested
1. For Citrus trunk drenching of Dichlorovus 76 EC @ 5 ml/lt of water at 10 days interval.
2. In case of Citrus canker advise them to prune and destruct the canker infected branches and spray 30g copper oxychloride along with 1 g streptocycline in 10 litres of water at 15 days interval.
