ICAR-KVK, West Garo Hills OrganizedTraining Programme on“Dairy Farming and Fodder Production” 11th June to 13th June 2018

A three days training programme on “Dairy Farming and Fodder Production” was organized by ICAR- KrishiVigyan Kendra, Tura, West Garo Hills, Meghalaya from 11th June to 13th June, 2018 in its training hall. The training was organized to impart knowledge to the farmers of West Garo Hills who are engaged in dairy farming and need technological support to increase milk production. The growth of dairy sector in North East region is not up to the mark as tribal population in the region don’t prefer milk in their diet. However, with the increased awareness of positive contribution of milk as a wholesome food item for all, it has now made its entry into the tribal people’s diet enhancing thereby the scope of milk production in the region. Considering this scope, the farming community engaged in milk sector needs to be given the
desired technological support for increasing the production. Also, High feed cost involved in dairy farming imposes immense economic pressure on the dairy farmers. So, Fodder cultivation is very much essential for these farmers not only to reduce feed cost but also to provide the cows required vitamins and minerals to increase milk production. With this purpose, the above mentioned training programme was conducted with 16 participantsfrom Rongram, Garobada and Rombagre areas of Garo Hills. A visit to KVK’s and TopwardMarak’s (Dairy Entrepreneur) dairy and fodder farm was done for practical demonstration to the participants.
