DG, ICAR Inaugurated Kisan Mela at Udaipur

Dr. S. Ayyappan, Secretary, DARE and DG, ICAR inaugurated the Kisan Mela organized by Vidya Bhawan Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Badgaon, Udaipur here today. In his address, he congratulated NGOs and KVK staff for their sincere efforts for technology dissemination under National Agricultural Innovation Project (NAIP) and mentioned that farmers will continue to get ICAR support with new technologies, especially in insulating them from climate change. He emphasized for innovations that enhance the profitability of agriculture and income of farmers. DG interacted with the gathering of about 200 farmers who were benefited by the NAIP. Farmers said to DG with pride that they have become "Lakhpati' and earning 1-7 lakh per annum because of new technologies provided to them under the project.

Different technologies such as low tunnel technology, polyhouse technology, raised bed planting, drip irrigation and vegetable cultivation for higher income were demonstrated during the Mela. In addition high yielding varieties of crops such as wheat, gram, mustard and 16 different vegetables varieties were demonstrated for adoption by farmers.

The three-day Mela (1-3 March, 2015) was organized on the theme ‘Increasing income of farmers by new technologies’.
