KVK-East Sikkim stressed on cluster pulses production

 

ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra-East Sikkim organised training cum input distribution programme on Cluster Frontline Demonstration on Pulses under National Food Security Mission on August 03, 2017 at Ralap village, East Sikkim with an objective to enhance the production and productivity of pulses through area expansion in a sustainable manner. A total of 49 nos. of progressive farmers from Ralap village participated in the programme and benefited with input support system of black gram (pahenlo dal) and biopesticides for an area of 6 ha in the village.

The programme was chaired by Dr. R.K. Avasthe, Joint Director, ICAR-National Organic Farming Research Institute, Tadong. He encouraged the farmers to undertake improved technologies of pulses cultivation in vast area to enhance the production and productivity of pulses in the state as well as to improve the soil health. He also stressed upon agri-prenurial ability toward the organic seed production of pulses for upliftment of livelihood and nutritional security and self sufficiency in seed.

Dr. Raghavendra Singh, Senior Scientist (Agronomy) and Head, KVK-East Sikkim welcomed the gathering and detailed about the improved packages and practices for cultivation of pahenlo dal and importance of crop rotation for soil fertility.  

Later on Dr. P. K. Pathak (SMS-Animal Sc), Dr. J. K. Singh (SMS-Plant Breeding) and Sh. Boniface Lepcha (SMS-Horticulture) interacted with the farmers to answer the problems raised bt the progressive farmers in the programme. In the programme improved production technologies of ginger, maize and black gram for insect pest prevention and management under organic condition were detailed by the experts. Newly developed ICAR technologies suited to small and marginal farmers in vegetable cultivation and livestock management for the improvement of farming in the village were also suggested to the farmers.
The program ended with vote of thanks proposed by Dr. N.J. Singh.
