Zonal Workshop of KVKs and Training Programme on PPV&FR

One-day Zonal Workshop of KVKs and Training Programme on Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers’ Rights were organized on 13th March, 2015 at Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya (IGKV), Raipur. An exhibition on biodiversity of crops of this region was also organized on the occasion.

Shri Kedar Kashyap, Minister of Tribal Development and School Education, Government of Chhattisgarh inaugurated the event as Chief Guest. Dr. N. Tutwiler, Director General, International Bioversity Centre, Rome (Italy) presided over the function.

 

 

   

Dr. S. K. Patil, Vice Chancellor, IGKV in his welcome address expressed concern on conservation of plant varieties of farmers and existed biodiversity and informed that three new centers of plant biodiversity conservation are being initiated in Bastar Plateu Zone for the conservation of seeds. He said that the university will work to evaluate the paddy germplasm for high bran oil content as it has in demand now-a-days.

Dr. Anupam Mishra, Zonal Project Director, Zone-VII, Jabalpur emphasized that apart from paddy other important crops of the region should also be projected for the future use.
Around 700 farmers from Chhattisgarh participated in the programme.
