KVK Ri-Bhoi successfully organized World Soil Day
cum Rabi Kisan Sammelan on the 5th December 2018

 

KVK- Ri-Bhoi organized World Soil Day with the theme ‘be the solution to soil pollution” cum Rabi Kisan Sammelan on 5th December 2018 at Conference Hall of KVK-Ri-Bhoi, ICAR, Umiam with the aim to create awareness and enhance knowledge on soil health, benefits of soil health cards, water resource management and crop selection and management for rabi crops for higher income. About 100 farmers and farm women and 14 officials were participated. The Chief Guest of the programme Hon’ble  MLA, East Khasi Hills Shillong, LAC, Meghalaya, Dr. M Ampareen Lyngdoh expressed her heartiest thanks and gratefulness to the KVK Ri-Bhoi for inviting her to such a programme as she was enlightened about the importance of Soil Health Day. She emphasized that farmers are very important to our nation and  they should be proud of their work and job citing the example of Poet Late Shri Soso, Tham, who said that the “world won’t be balance to have only people with pen and pencil but there should also be people with plough and hoe”. Thus, she expressed that she was very happy to see even youths in the programme and encourage them not to just sit and wait for white color jobs or salaried jobs; instead to startup farming as an entrepreneurs and help in production of agricultural crops to sustain the people of our state. The all the dignitaries emphasized on the importance of World Soil day and Rabi Kisan Sammelan and urge the farmers to take care of their plantation just like their own children and earned more income with the improvement of soil health by growing pulses as second crop. They also urge the farmers to work as entrepreneur in farming.

The Dignitaries presence in the programme were Dr. N Prakash, Director, ICAR(RC) for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya; Dr. B.C. Deka, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Umiam; Dr. A. K. Jha, Principal Scientist and Head of Horticulture Division and Nodal Officer KVK’s ICAR, Dr. Mokidul Islam, Head KVK Ri-Bhoi and all the HODs’ & staff, ICAR Umiam and KVK Ri-Bhoi. Farmers training on soil health management, film show, farmers-scientist interactions etc were also organized. About 100 numbers of Soil Health Cards and agri- Inputs like Tube Rose Var. Arka Prajwal, waste Decomposer and Biofertilizers PSB were distributed to the farmers. The programme ended with the vote of thanks by Mrs. Eliza C. Syiemlieh, SMS (Home Science) KVK-Ri-Bhoi.
