Training programme on “Entrepreneurship skill development in food processing” Under ABI

  A six days training programme entitled “Entrepreneurship skill development in food processing” was successfully organized in the Division of System Research and Engineering, ICAR Research complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya during 18th to 23rd March, 2021 which was sponsored under Institute’ ABI (Agri-Business Incubation).

There was a participation of 7 agripreneurs (2 female and 5 male) in total from Meghalaya. The motive of this training programme was to address the processing skills by imparting theoretical knowledge and hands-on training on value addition of horticultural crops, honey processing and marketing of the value added products for maximizing profitability. A total of 15 numbers of lectures and practical demonstrations were covered on the aspects of entrepreneurial skill development, prospects of food processing, postharvest management of perishable produce, processing and production of quality honey for marketing, drying and dehydration, commonly employed equipment and machinery in food processing and various methods of preservation techniques. An exposure trip to RRTC (Rural Resource Training Centre), Umran was also organized for hands-on demonstration of honey rearing, honey collection, honey processing and packaging.

There was also a session of FoSTaC (Food Safety Training and Certification) programme on ‘Manufacturing (Level 1) & Covid- Food Safety Supervisor’ from the Commissionerate of Food Safety Meghalaya, Government of Meghalaya. Most of the participants were progressive and established agripreneurs and this training enhanced their already existing knowledge and skills both in terms of processing and marketing. Training certificate and inputs (pamphlets, packaging material and food grade preservative) were also distributed to the participants.  

The training was coordinated by Drs. SR Assumi, S Hazarika, Sandip Patra, Vanalaruati, H Rymbai, HD Talang, VK Verma and G Kadirvel.
