Review Meeting of KVKs of Sikkim organized at ICAR-NOFRI

 

A review meeting was held at ICAR-NOFRI on September 15, 2016 with the purpose of reviewing and evaluating the progress of each Subject Matter Specialist of all the KVKs of Sikkim. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Bidyut C. Deka, Director, ATARI, Umiam, Meghalaya. Programme Coordinators, and SMSes of all the four KVKs attended the meeting.

The Chairman of the programme Dr. Bidyut C. Deka, Director, ATARI, Umiam, Meghalaya welcomed all the participants. Addressing the gathering, he highlighted the agenda of the meeting to appraise the performance and activities undertaken by the individual SMS so that the opportunity for discussing the scope and constraints in performance of the KVK activities may be identified. He stressed that the implementation of On Farm Trials and Front Line Demonstration should be assessed at farmer’s field to reduce the gap between the extension functionaries and the farmers. He also stated that KVK should act as a front line extension organization and suggested that technology demonstrated and disseminated must be from the source of research institute, CAUs and SAUs. The expectation of farmers from KVK are rapidly increasing and being an organic state the whole country is looking towards Sikkim for implementable technologies, he added.

During the programme Dr. R.K. Avasthe, Joint Director, ICAR-NOFRI, Tadong appreciated ATARI for accomplishment of such meeting to make the KVK activities more effective and meaningful for the betterment of farming community of respective states of North East region. He detailed the technologies developed by ICAR-NOFRI and also encouraged the house to interchange the successful technologies among the four KVKs of the state. He also strongly advocated upon organic seed production to meet the seed requirement of the state.

Dr. P.C. Jat, Senior Scientist (Agronomy), ATARI, Umiam, Meghalaya explained the importance of the meeting. The said review meeting will be conducted in all the 74 KVKs of north east hill regions to strengthen the KVK performance in terms of reviewing its progress according to mandate and formulating the action plan for future.

Coordinating the meeting Dr. Raghavendra Singh Programme Coordinator (I/c) KVK East Sikkim expressed his happiness over the successful execution of the meeting.
Thereafter, a brief presentation on Annual Progress Report of 2015-16 and Annual Action Plan 2016-17 was made by each SMSs of all the four KVKs.

The Chairman of the Committee appreciated the work done by the KVKs and gave constructive suggestions for the development and livelihood security for the farming community in the state.

At the end of the meeting the vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Raghavendra Singh.
