Training on Offseasonal Cultivation of Vegetables and Its Management Practices

 

A one day training programme on “Off-seasonal Cultivation of Vegetables and its Management Practices” was conducted at Chaglongam by Administration on 19th May, 2017. Resource persons Ms Rebecca Eko, SMS Horticulture and Dr. Senpon Ngomle, SMS Plant Protection were invited from KVK, Anjaw. Altogether 22 farmers including rural youth and women participated in the training programme.

The training started with the welcome addressed by Shri. Aniyang Ratan, Circle officer, Chaglongam Circle, Anjaw district.  He welcomed the participants and briefed the gathering about the importance of organizing this training. During the summer months, the district’s road connectivity usually gets cutoff due to heavy rainfall and causing blockadeleading to unavailability of the vegetables in the market. So, he stressed upon the cultivation of vegetables in-order to meet the demand during the scarcity period.

Ms Rebecca Eko, SMS (Horti.) delivered her lecture through a detailed power point presentation on ‘Off-seasonalcultivation of vegetables’. She encouraged the farmers to adopt off-seasonal vegetable cultivation, as the region is blessed with pleasant climate round the summer months, making it the desirable location for vegetable production. The different aspects of cultivation such as sowing, nursery preparation, spacing, intercultural operations, etc. were elaborated.

Dr. Senpon Ngomle, SMS (PP) aware the farmers about the preventive measures of pest and disease control and emphasized more on organic means of approach. He suggested the farmers to transform their mindset of cultivating vegetables only for household needs to commercial mode. 

He also highlighted the importance of KVK and its contribution to the farming community.

Smti. S. Tega, Gram Chairperson, Chaglogam gave the importance of vegetable farming in local dialogue and really appreciated the Administration as well as KVK’s effort.

At the end of the programme, the farmers were distributed seeds of different vegetables under RKVY 2015-16 2nd instalment.
