Demonstration on nursery raising of winter vegetable crops in Mawthei Village under NMSHE-TF6

 

A field demonstration was conducted on 24th October 2016 in Mawthei village under NMSHE-TF6, ICAR Umiam. The main objective of the programme was to disseminate technical knowhow among the farmers on various aspects of nursery raising of various vegetable crops. The programme was attended by about 35 interested farmers of the village. The farmers were exposed to both theory and hands on demonstration of various associated activities. Following demonstrations, seeds of winter crops such as cabbage, cauliflower, carrot and broccoli were distributed to the farmers. Discussion and interaction was also held simultaneously during the hands on experience. It was revealed that farmers in this particular village have never been practices any nursery nor raising their own seedling of vegetables, which they usually bring from outside with a higher price of Rs 2-5 per seedling. The participants have shown great enthusiasm and eager to learn. Feedback from the participants has shown that such activities will help in improving their livelihood as well as soil-water conservation through adoption of improved techniques of nursery raising.
