Demonstration on nursery raising of Khasi Mandarin in Mawthei Village under NMSHE-TF6.

 

A field demonstration was conducted on 20th February 2017 in Mawthei village under National Mission for Sustaining Himalayan Ecosystem -TF6, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam. The main objective of the programme was to disseminate technical knowhow among the farmers on various aspects of nursery raising of Khasi Mandarin. About fifteen interested farmers were selected to attend the programme. The farmers were exposed to both theory and hands on demonstration of various activities such as seed bed preparation, primary and secondary nursery practices, seed treatment, sowing, nursery management, plant protection, budding and grafting and also the importance of using rootstock in Khasi Mandarin. Discussion and interaction was also held simultaneously during the hands on experience. The participants have shown great enthusiasm and eager to learn. Feedback from the participants has shown that farmer in the village have never been exposed to nursery raising for fruit crops and hence present programme will help them in raising quality planting materials to meet the demand. Therefore, such activities will help in improving their livelihood through adoption of improved techniques of nursery management. The programme was coordinated by Drs. H. Rymbai, Anup Das, S. Patra, Subash Yadav, T. Nongkseh, Y. Law and W. Lawai of ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam.
