“Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav” Programme Organized By ICAR-KVK, Ri-Bhoi, Meghalaya

 

The visionary programme of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India “Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav” (My village, My pride) was organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ri-Bhoi under ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya on 29th October, 2015 at Kdonghulu village under Umsning CD block.

The day long programme began with an explanatory note by Dr. M. Mokidul Islam, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Ri-Bhoi who briefly explained the purpose, requirements and benefits as well as various activities to be undertaken by KVK under this flagship programme for the farming community in the adopted villages. He also briefed about the cropping system that needs to be followed after the harvest of paddy with pulses and oilseeds like pea, lentil and mustard. He emphasized for adoption of various modern technologies suitable for hilly areas developed by ICAR for higher productivity and income generation in agriculture and allied sectors. He further stressed on importance of creating awareness among the farmers about the latest scientific technologies and acquainting them about the effect of climate change on various crops for sustainable farming systems of the district.

 

A scientists- farmers’ interaction was also held where about 52 farmers including headman from five different villages viz., Khweng, Kdonghulu, Thadnongiew, Mawshrieh Liarkhla and Mawbri participated and interacted with the KVK scientists in the discipline of Agronomy,  Horticulture, Home Science and Plant Protection about their problems and solutions. The baseline information of these villages was also collected during the farmers’ scientist interaction programme. The villagers and headman were briefed about their needs and it was decided to draw successive action plan for the activities in agriculture and allied sectors for the improvement of livelihood of farmers.

The KVK has also selected two SHG’s viz., Imlang and Tyllilang from Kdonghulu and Liarkhla village to implement the MGMG programmes. The activities under MGMG programme was started with the construction of two low cost polyhouse in the adopted villages. The members of SHG’s were imparted training on cultivation of vegetable crops along with the practical demonstration for vegetable nursery management. During the programme, the inputs like high yielding and hybrid seeds of cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli were also distributed among the farmers’.
