Training on Postharvest management and value addition of Khasi Mandarin

Khasi mandarin is an important fruit crop of Anjaw District. It is mostly grown in the low laying areas of the district which provides favourable climatic condition for its growth and yield. The most common problem the farmers face today, is the heavy loss or wastage in surplus production as the fruits are highly perishable in nature. One such progressive farmer Mr. Kathak, from Chipru village made similar complaints as his buyers, from Assam occasionally purchase his produce and most of the time he witnessed heavy loss. Hence, mitigating the problem of postharvest losses, KVK Anjaw aimed to create awareness among the farmers by organizing a two days training programme with method demonstration at Chipru village (20th and 21st January 2017) and one-day at Tafraliang village (23rd January 2017) on “Postharvest management and value addition of Khasi Mandarin”. At Chipru village, altogether 87 nos. of farmers (both young and old) attended the training programme. While, at Tafraliang, a total of 34 nos. of farmer women, mostly from “SYADU” self-help group (SHG) attended the training programme. Ms Rebecca Eko, SMS (Horticulture) coordinator of the training programme delivered her lecture in details on different aspects of postharvest management and value addition techniques. Programme was followed by method demonstration of Orange Squash preparation, the participants shown keen interest and appreciated the KVK official’s effort.
