International Women’s day celebration at ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya on 8th March 2017

 

The Women’s Cell of ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam celebrated ‘International Women’s Day on 8th March 2017 on the theme ‘Be bold for change’. Dr. K. Puro, Vice-chairperson of the women’s cell welcomed the participants of the gathering by stressing that women should be celebrated every day. Mrs. Lovely M. Kharhujon presented a special song marking the joyous occasion. Short speeches were delivered by Dr. C. Aochen, treasurer women’s cell who highlighted the potency of the women at workplace and in nurturing a family and that it is day that we call on the nation to make this a just and fair world for women, girl, men and boys alike. Mrs. T. Pattanayak, Joint secretary women’s cell shared her experience as a working mother and how young minds need to be shaped. There is always a stigma attached to a working mother and achieving success with it is in itself an achievement. Dr. R. Sanjukta, Scientist, Animal Health stressed on the significance of celebrating this day by motivating and inspiring the participants to achieve more and honor those women who stood up against all odds and fought for a change in the society. Mrs. Swapna Deb Kanungo, Branch manager SBI ICAR Umiam, speaking on the occasion, laid emphasis on the fact that women need to devote some time for themselves and take proper care of their nutrition as they are the backbone of the family. Women should have the spirit to fight for their dignity and a society where women are secure and successful is a developed society in true sense. Invited speaker, Dr. Juliana D’Costa from Shillong highlighted the precious place women holds in the society and understanding between the genders is the key to a balanced society. She added that women should listen to their heart and not the follow the norms set by the society and work towards a direction where they get the best results in whatever she is pursuing. Dr. Satish Chandra, Director I\c speaking on the occasion said that the male section of the society should change the perspective in how they see the opposite gender, as there is uniqueness in the fairer sex which holds them above in the society. The programme was concluded by vote of thanks from Dr. S. Ruth Assumi, Secretary women’s cell.
