ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute, Eastern Regional Station,  Kalyani, West Bengal and ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya organized awareness, demonstrations, input distributions and animal health camps in remote villages of Meghalaya

Two days programmes on awareness about rearing of dairy cattle, demonstrations of use of various inputs along with distribution of various inputs   and animal health camps in two remote villages of Meghalaya namely Mawmuthoh (Mawrynkneng Block) and Tanglei (Mawkynrew Block) were jointly organized by ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI), Eastern Regional Station (ERS), Kalyani, West Bengal and ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya on 11.01.17. and 12.01.17., respectively, under the leadership of Dr. S.V. Ngachan, Director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya. The participants from ICAR-NDRI, ERS,  Kalyani, West Bengal were Dr. S.K.Das (Principal Scientist), Dr. D.K. Mandal (Principal Scientist), Dr.(Mrs.) Saroj Rai ( Scientist), Dr.(Mrs.) Rajalaxmi Behera ( Scientist) and Dr. A. Ghosh (Chief Technical Officer). The participants from ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya were Dr. A. Sen (Principal Scientist & Head, Division of Animal Health), Dr. R. Laha (Principal Scientist),Dr. I. Shakuntala (Principal Scientist), Dr. Meena Das (Scientist), Dr. Samir Das (Scientist), Dr. R. Sanjukta (Scientist) and Dr. S. Ruth Assumi (Scientist).
A total of 55 and 50 numbers of farmers from Mawmuthoh and Tanglei villages, respectively participated in this two days programme. Dr. A. Sen (Principal Scientist)   welcome all, specially the scientific and technical staff of ICAR-NDRI, ERS,  Kalyani, West Bengal and thanks them for choosing our Institute for such a collaborative work. He assures about success of such type of joint programme in future also. Dr. S.K.Das (Principal Scientist) briefly described about purpose of such collaborative work and prospect of dairy farming in north eastern region particularly in these two villages. Different categories of scientists of both Institutes given lectures about their specific disciplines, demonstrated about the use of various inputs like  vitamins and minerals for cattle, dewormers etc.   and encouraged these farmers to take dairy farming as a profitable entrepreneurship. In this regard detailed interactions between scientists and farmers held by which farmers of both villages were benefited, as per overall animal and poultry rearing and cultivation of horticultural crops are concerned.  During animal health camps veterinary medicines were distributed among farmers. Besides, 400 numbers of chicks were also distributed among farmers to improve their livelihood.
