ICAR-KVK Churachandpur distributes blackgram seeds

KrishiVigyan Kendra Churachandpur, ICAR Manipur Centre organized Capacity Building and Input Distribution programme on “Scientific cultivation of Blackgram under rainfed condition for doubling farmers’ income” at training hall, KVK Churachandpur, Pearsonmun on collaboration with Indian Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology, Rachi, Jarkhand on August 13-14, 2019. The program was organized with a view to strengthen the farmers to produce their own seed through community participatory approach.

Total of 31 nos of progressive farmers from different villages of Churachandpur district participated the programme. Blackgram var. PU 31 and organic fertilizer were distributed to the farmers. The programme was conducted under the leadership of Dr. I. Meghachandra Singh, Joint Director, ICAR RC for NEH Region, Manipur Centre, Lamphelpat, patronage of Dr. Narendra Prakash, Director, ICAR for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya.

Gracing the occasion Dr. S. Roma Devi, Senior Scientists & Head, KVK Churachandpur welcome the gathering and stressed on the climate change and their direct impact on agriculture. She said that changing climate, unseasonal and low distribution of rain hit the rice crop regularly during kharif season in Manipur hence, it is necessary to be prepared accordingly for combating against the unpredicted weather conditions. She encouraged the farming community to undertake quality seed production and also encouraged to develop agri-prenurial ability towards the seed production so that the farmers can double income.

During the programme Sh. P. Chandramani Singh SMS (Horticulture) explained package and practices of quality seed production of blackgram. He also discussed about the technology of cropping system and make sure to include pulse crop for the improvement of soil health.

Dr. N. Johnson Singh, SMS (Plant Protection), KVK Churachandpur detailed the major insect pests and diseases of blackgram and their management practices. He motivated the farmers for production of quality seeds to be self-dependent in seed.

Ms.Bs. Hmannihring Anal, SMS (Agroforestry), KVK Churachandpur emphasized on the importance of inclusion of leguminous crop in the cropping system.

Sh. L. Basil, Farm Manager, KVK Churachandpur described the necessity of modern agricultural technologies to meet the ever increasing demand of food grains in the state. He interacted with farmers for their technical problems of low production and productivity and also briefed on improved production technology off season vegetables which can empower the farming community and their livelihood status

The programme ended with vote of thanks from Dr. W. Rajen Singh, CTO (Animal Science). Miss. Manngaikim, Programme assistant, KVK Churachandpur co ordinated the programme. All the staffs of ICAR-KVK Churachandpur actively involved for smooth conduction the programme.
