Exploration and Collection of Germplasm cum Diagnostic visit at Basar

 

Basar 28th Nov., 2014: A team consisting of A. Kiranmkumar Singh, i/c Programme Coordinator, KVK West Siang and Shri Letngam Touthang, Scientist (Plant Breeding), ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, A. P. Centre, Basar paid a diagnostic visit to farmers’ field with exploration and collection of germplasm of rice and maize in Tirbin Circle yesterday. Firtly, the team visited Shri Gome Gadi’s potato field where the crop is totally infected with early blight which is a great loss to him and a point discouragement in farming enterprises. But, the team observed after interaction with him that he has been growing potato since the last three years in the same field that too with uncertified seed from the market and the previous crop this year was maize which is also an exhaustive crop. The team suggested him to grow potato with only certified seeds in rotation with other leguminous crops or change the field to grow potato. As he interpreted the team, he sold the green pods of pea @ Rs 80/kg at local market. Then, the team monitored the polyhouse which has been given by KVK West Siang this year under which tomato is grown luxuriantly. The team also collected the germplasms of rice (for both WRC and Jhum) and maize. Then the team proceeded towards Tai village from where germplasms of rice and maize were collected from Smt Gerik Kamdak and Smt Yinyak Ame. Moreover, the team witnessed the farmers growing large cardamom on the opposite side of the river which is growing luxuriantly. After reaching the village, the team interacted with the farmers and witnessed production of pineapple in a successful way and found that the produce are sold in the local market @ Rs 30/fruit. The team also took weight of the fruit and found weighing 3 kg/fruit in average. On the way back to Basar, the team collected one germplasm of rice from Sodo Doke village from Smt Kiyi Gadi.
