Training programme on “Empowering women farmers through processing of agricultural crops”

 

A three days training programme on “Empowering women farmers through processing of agricultural crops” was successfully organized at ICAR Research complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya during 11th to 13th October, 2017 sponsored under Farmer FIRST Programme. There was a participation of 44 farmers (38 female and 6 male) in total, from Umtham, Sarikushi, Joigang, Borkatsari, Nalapara and Borgang villages under Marngar Division of Ri Bhoi District, Meghalaya. The objective of this training was aimed to address the need of processing skill by imparting hands-on training on postharvest management and value addition. This creation of awareness and training was targeted for livelihood improvement and doubling the farmers’ income. Most of the trainees were progressive farmers and have keen desire for taking up processing as a micro enterprise. During the programme, lectures and practical sessions were delivered and conducted on utilization and processing of horticultural crops, and the trainees were also enlightened on subjects of poultry management, fish rearing, mushroom cultivation and vermicomposting. All the trainees expressed their satisfaction on this training programme and showed interest for further specialized training. The training was coordinated by Drs. SR Assumi, PK Sinha, Bagish Kumar, H Jiten Singh, M Thoi Thoi Devi, H Rymbai, AK Jha and R Laha.
