Demonstration of Soil Health Test Kit to Farmers from Tripura  

 

A total of 27 farmers from Khowai district of Tripura visited the Soil Science section, Division of Natural Resource Management, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya on 5th November, 2015. The visit was arranged by the Department of Horticulture, Government of Tripura and Dr. A.K. Tripathi, Principal Scientist and In-Charge, ATARI, Zone-III, Umiam, Meghalaya. Scientists from Soil Science: Dr. Ramesh T, Dr. Manoj-Kumar, Dr. B.C. Verma and Dr. Prabha Devi explained the importance of soil testing and nutrient recommendations. The role of ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya along with its 6 regional centres located in Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland and Tripura in soil testing and nutrient recommendations in northeastern region was emphasized to the farmers. Scientists also demonstrated the Soil Health Testing Kit (SHTK) developed by the ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam for on-field soil testing and nutrient recommendations. Farmers interacted with soil scientists regarding the soil testing, what forms of nutrients to be added, liming methods and sources, etc.
