Brief report on Farmers awareness program organized jointly by ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya & National Institute of Agricultural Marketing, Jaipur on 26th March, 2016

 

A one day awareness program was organized on the 26th March 2016 at Nongthliew, West Khasi Hills, District on “The Importance of Agricultural Marketing” jointly by ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya & National Institute of Agricultural Marketing, Jaipur. The awareness program was attended by 107 participants who are farmers from the above mentioned village. The program began with a welcome speech by the Headman of Nongthliew Village and it was followed by the speech of Dr. Aniruddha Roy, Scientist (Agril. Economics), Division of Social Sciences, ICAR RC for NEH Region, Umiam who had made the farmers aware on the importance of agricultural marketing in the region. He had mentioned the need of value addition and supply chain management of major agricultural produce (fruits, ginger and turmeric) that could fetch a higher price in the market as compared to the raw agricultural produce. It was then followed by a farmer – scientists’ interaction and distribution of agricultural inputs (seeds) to the farmers who have attended the program. Folders/ Leaflets related to agricultural and allied practices were also distributed to the farmers. The programme then concluded with a vote of thanks from the Headman of Nongthliew Village.
